Michael Faye > Tahiti
Experience
When
the English music invasion came about, Michael turned his interests
toward the music and dance of Tahiti, forming a top level Tahitian
Dance Company with the cream of the crop in dancers and musicians from
Tahiti. As leader of this young dynamic troupe of dancers and musicians
rightly named, “The Tahitians”, he endlessly toured
the USA, Canada and Caribbean. He holds the reputation as having the
only Tahitian Dance troupe ever to consistently appear in the major
hotels of Las Vegas. For 20 years Michael Faye represented Tahiti and
her Islands through the Tahiti Tourism Office and the carrier of the
epoch, UTA French Airlines.
He moved to Tahiti in 1993 and joined one of the finest local Tahitian
Dance Groups, playing the traditional Tahitian percussion instruments,
guitar and singing the Polynesian chants and songs. Once again, Faye
formed his own Tahitian dance group using the top dancers and drummers.
He holds the title to this day as the only outsider not of Tahitian
ancestry to play the Tahitian instruments and lead a dance group in
Tahiti.
Tahiti’s
public discovered Michael Faye, the powerful rock guitarist and singer,
the night John Gabilou, Tahiti’s most famous recording
artist, celebrated his 30 year carrier at a concert before 3000
spectators. Gabilou made Faye his honored guest during the concert. It
was an unforgettable evening for a public astounded by the
guitarist’s dexterity.
From then on Michael Faye was known as “La Guitare
Americaine”. The title given to him by the French Press,
Michael has since given several concerts in Tahiti and has never had
anything less than capacity crowds. A whole new generation now is
experiencing the pulsating sounds of Michael Faye, Rock, pure and hard.
Never
ending in the magical force that inspires all true artists, he recorded
a CD incorporating the traditional Tahitian rhythms and chants with his
trademark staccato guitar that became a number 1 seller in French
Polynesia and is currently a much sought after item in Europe. In 1999,
his concert “exceptionnel”, sponsored by Coca-Cola,
Air New Zealand and Radio One, earned him reviews by the French press
such as, “A rocker of great talent” and
“A one of a kind artist” These kinds of press
reviews resulted in local television specials as
“Pretetei” and Studio 5. His video clip of the
title hit song, “I’m Local”, with
it’s humoristic touch, won Michael the award for best music
clip of the year 2000.
