Discography
The maohi spirit is the
result of harmonic fusion of mind and heart. This album is the magical
birth of traditional maohi with rock, pure and hard. I have recorded
this music with the maohi spirit and I dedicate it to the people of
French Polynesia with my warmest feelings.
It was a long time in the making, now turn up the volume and let it
rip.
In 1999 the CD I’m local was recorded in Tahiti. The title
song, I’m local was sung by Michael in the Tahitian language
and tells the story of a well dressed outsider who comes to Tahiti and
has no luck with the ladies until he learns to dress and act local.
It has a comic twist as it plays on basic mentality of the island
people.
The other
cuts of the album are a brilliant fusion of Tahitian chants and rhythms
combined with a rock theme. Included also are some classic standard
rock classics including Miserlou, the famous theme to
the movie "Pulp Fiction".
The I’m Local Album is recognized for starting the wheels in
motion for other Tahitian music groups incorporating contemporary
sounds into traditional Tahitian music.
